Ruby Mae Mickey Simon, 92, of Louisville died Wednesday December 8, 2021 at Hillcreek Nursing & Rehab.
Visitation Tuesday December 14, 2021 10:30 – 11:30 am, at W.T. Shumake & Daughters Funeral Home 3815 Newburg Road. Funeral to follow at 11:30am. Burial at Resthaven Memorial Gardens.
Ruby Mae Simon was born on Monday, October 14, 1929, in Waddy, Kentucky, to the late Robert and Fannie Mickey. She accepted Christ at an early age and was a Christian in the Methodist faith. Her love for Christ was shown in acts of kindness and a willingness to help others.
She attended college and became a licensed practical nurse (LPN) after which she worked at General Hospital and Red Cross Hospitals for years until she decided to use her nursing skills at Four Courts and Parkway Medical Nursing Homes for twenty-five to thirty years of service. Throughout her nursing career she always took refresher courses to make sure she was up to date on the latest skills and practices in the nursing field. When Ruby wasn’t working, she enjoyed traveling with family and friends, eating out, and shopping.
Preceding her in death were her husband, Allen Simon; sister, Dorothy Bell; and granddaughters, Annoquenette and Starr. Ruby Mae Simon’s earthly journey ended on Wednesday, December 8, 2021, at Hillcreek Rehab Center. She leaves to cherish her memory: daughters, Tina Vermes (Bob) and Ruby Forte; a son Antonio Smith; sisters, Nettie Douglas, Patricia Beckham (Lynn), Hattie Howell (Joe), Nancy Chappell, Joyce Neal; a brother, John Mickey; eight grandchildren, three great grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
