Equilla Lavone James, 68, of Louisville transitioned on Friday, January 17, 2025.
Visitation 11-1 Saturday, January 25, 2025, at First Philadelphia Independent Ministries 1337 Hepburn Avenue. Funeral to follow at 1pm.
Equilla Lavone James was born in Birmingham, Alabama on December 14, 1956, to proud parents Ada Viticiha Hodge James and Aaron James, Sr. Equilla was the 9th child of 12 children. She was blessed to have Virginia, Aaron, Jr, Hattie, Bertha, Josephine, Dorothy, Gloria, JoAnn, Spencer, Kelvin and Betty as part of a large family.
Educated in the Jefferson County School system, Equilla graduated from Jefferson County High School. She began her working career with Strylinkof Printing Company which was located at 15th & Broadway. They made wonderful coloring books and crayons for children. She spent many years in their employment.
Equilla was a U of L cardinal fan. She wore her red and black proudly. Her greatest joy was spending time with family and friends. She enjoyed listening to music, dancing, and playing dominos.
Sadly, on Friday, January 17, 2025, Equilla Lavone James departed this life. She leaves to cherish her memory her children, Anika L. James and Andrea “Trina” James Gover
(Russell); grandchildren Le’Andre James, Antonio James, Darius Frierson, and Earius James.; great grandson, Dameion L. Frierson, great granddaughter, Love L. Frierson; sisters Bertha Finch, Josephine Beavers, Dorothy James, Gloria Goree (Charles), JoAnn Williams and Betty Alexander; and a host of nephews, nieces, cousins, and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Ada and Aaron James, foster parents, Joe H. and Helorse Carson; brother, Aaron James, Jr; sisters, Virginia London, and Hattie Ferguson; and grandson, Datril L. Frierson, Jr.
