Dorothy Louise White Richardson, 90, of Louisville transitioned on Monday, November 13, 2023 at her home surrounded by family.

Visitation 12-4 Monday, November 20, 2023 at W.T. Shumake & Daughters Funeral Home 3815 Newburg Road. Funeral to follow at 4pm.

Dorothy Louise White was born in Charlotte NC on February 11, 1933. She was born the youngest of four siblings to the proud parents of Theodore and Thelma McKee White.

Dorothy fell in love with military serviceman Lonnie S. Richardson Sr. They were married in 1955. Soon after marriage, they relocated from NC to KY. To this union two sons were born: Lonnie Jr. and Karl Maurice Richardson. Dorothy had a passion for learning! She pursued her education in the field of nursing at Spalding College. She worked as a nurse at Central State Hospital. But she didn’t stop there; Dorothy Richardson went on to pursue her Masters and graduated at the top of her class - Magna Cum Laude! She was the Director of Nursing at Clark Memorial Hospital in Clarksville IN. She believed in excellence in all things!

The Lord and her family were the great loves of her life! She was always an attentive Mother. She loved, supported, and always encouraged her sons. Dorothy supported others as well, by helping to implement a tutoring program at the First Baptist Church of Jeffersontown (FBCJ) where she was an active member. (Her love for education went with her everywhere!) She participated in the Health and ACTS Ministries at FBCJ, as well as the Ladies Sewing Circle. Dorothy loved her Sunday School class. Also, when she wasn’t able to attend Bible Study in person, she was the first person to join via Zoom each Wednesday!

After retiring from nursing (on her birthday in 1996), she became a substitute teacher and tutor with JCPS. She was also extremely active in the Jeffersontown community! She became a home health aide and was a volunteer at the Jtown Senior Citizen Center. Although very accomplished, she never wanted acknowledgements for things she simply did out of love. Dorothy loved walking, traveling, bowling, crossword puzzles, and of all of her dogs, she loved Chewy the most!

Early in the morning on Monday, November 13th, Sis. Dorothy Richardson fell asleep. She is preceded in death by her parents and her siblings, Theodore, George, and Mary. Leaving to cherish her memory are her sons, Lonnie Jr. (Regina) and Karl Richardson; Karen, Cherryl, Kevin, and Bernadette (nieces and nephew whom she also raised). Grandchildren: La-tisha, Zephaniah, Qiana, Cory, Karl Jr, and Ryan; 16 greatgrandchildren; and one great-great grandchild; a host of nieces, nephews, loved ones, and friends
