Derrick William Macklin, Sr., 51, of Louisville died on December 13, 2022 at Norton Audubon.

Visitation Thursday, December 22, 2022 from 10-12 at Star Hope Baptist Church 5009 E. Indian Trail. Funeral to follow at 12:00. Burial Green Meadows Cemetery.



Derrick William Macklin, Sr. was born on Sunday, June 27, 1971, in Louisville, Kentucky, to proud parents Ernest William Gore and Carolyn Ann Macklin. He accepted Christ at an early age at Providence Baptist Church, under the Pastorate of Rev. R. L. Clayton.

Derrick attended Jefferson County Public Schools, where he was assessed as being college material in the fourth grade. He also attended McGavock High School in Nashville, Tennessee. He later graduated from Adult Education, and furthered his education at ITT Tech and JCTC.

Derrick was employed at Reynolds Aluminum, in the Trucking Department, as a truck assembler. He was also employed at Mid America, where he was an impressive detailer. He had other employment opportunities until his health began to decline.

Derrick was a jack of all trades and a master of them all. He was a self - taught mechanic. If he worked on a vehicle, you never had to worry about it again, because he never liked cutting corners. He could cook up great dishes. If he tasted it, he could make it. Derrick loved trivia. He passed the Jeopardy test, received an invitation to the game, but was unavailable to go. He was gifted in working puzzles, and could work a puzzle in an hour. He had a great love for his family. The highlight of his life was being a father, PawPaw, and an uncle. He took pride in being a son and a big brother. Derrick loved family gatherings.

Derrick was preceded in death by his daughter, Deriel Macklin; grandson, Kristopher S. W. Macklin, and all four grandparents.

On Tuesday, December 13, 2022, Derrick William Macklin, Sr. departed this life. He leaves to cherish his memories, his devoted daughter, Christin D. Macklin; his namesake son, Derrick William Macklin, Jr.; his youngest daughter, Asali L French; daughters, Jianna Colon, Amirah Macklin, and Olivia Martin. Others cherishing his memories, his father, Ernest Gore; mother, Carolyn Daugherty; brother, Demetre Macklin (Crystal); sister, Cheryl Smith-Rauen (Matthew); step-sister, Kristy Taylor Moore; grandsons, Raj C. Woods and Remy C. Cromartie; nephew, Xavier J. Macklin; aunts and uncles; great aunt, Doial Macklin; his longtime companion, Crystal Lydian; and a host of cousins and friends.
