Visitation 10-12 Saturday, June 17, 2023 at W.T. Shumake & Daughters Funeral Home 3815 Newburg Road. Funeral to follow at 12 noon. Burial Petersburg-Newburg Cemetery.
Delores Jean Harris was born Monday, January 25, 1954, in Louisville, Kentucky, to Grace Harris and George Rhoades and was their fourth child.
She was so very proud to have grown up in the West End and to have been a graduate of Central High School. However, in 1980, she moved into the Newburg community where in past years she worked at Unseld Daycare until she retired.
Delores was known to her family and friends as Lois. She was a loving, caring, nurturing, and giving person who loved her family so very much. They meant the world to her, especially her children and grandchildren. She never met a stranger and was willing to help others. “Whether you need it or wanted it, if she had it you got it.” Delores was a very avid University of Louisville fan who didn’t mind
cheering on her Cards. “L’s Up!!” she’d say. Lois also enjoyed playing cards and bingo, as well as being on 3-way phone calls, and fussing with her two surviving sisters, Lula and Roselyn.
On Sunday June 11, 2023, Delores Jean Harris departed this life when her number was finally called O-69, BINGO! She finally won the jackpot when she was called to her heavenly home.
She was preceded in death by her parents; siblings, Evelyn, Thomas, and Phyllis; eldest son, Christopher Harris; grandson, Kyre Wright; and companion, Charles Fowler, Sr.
She is survived by her daughters, Cherese Young, Trina Fowler, Denise Fowler and
Kimberly Fowler; sons, Frederick Harris, Sr. and Charles Fowler; sisters, Lula Harris (Johnny), and Roselyn Harris (Herschel); brother, Dennis Rhoades; 24 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; caregivers, Kim Harris and Ceconda Anthony; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
